5 Tips for Relocating to Another State
Buying a home can be a long and sometimes stressful process. Buying a home in another state, if you are uncertain of the process, can be even more so. However, if you know the steps, you can simplify the process and help alleviate, perhaps even eliminate, the stress of buying a home out of state.
Here are 5 tips to help you:
This year alone I've had 11 clients relocating from other states to outstanding locations around SW Ohio including Cincinnati, West Chester, Mason, Springboro and Beavercreek, all of which have amazing luxury homes, surprisingly affordable, and attractive median properties.
Drawing on the experiences with each client, I've compiled a list of 5 common denominators to speed relocating buyers on their quest:
1. Know your timeline and plan accordingly.
Your Realtor can help you with your timeline but there are a few things you need to know, such as when you plan to move, when you’ll be able to make trips to view potential homes, and how much time you need to sell your current home. Knowing these things and planning for them will save you time, money and stress later.
2. Hold off on large purchases.
If you intend to buy a new car or buy furniture for your new house, wait until after you have closed. Big financial changes can affect your ability to obtain a mortgage.
3. Get pre-qualified for a mortgage.
Typically this can be done online and while it may not be as easy as getting a loan in your home state, lenders are generally understanding if you provide them with a reason for your move.
4. Do lots of research.
When looking for homes in another state you are at a disadvantage since you don’t know the best neighborhoods. However, you can obtain lots of helpful information online. The right buyer’s agent can also help you with this step.
5. Tour prospective homes online.
Fortunately, many online listings include virtual tours that show you details still pictures cannot capture. When working with your buyer’s agent, ask to be shown listings that have virtual tours. This is particularly helpful if you are not able to travel and view homes in person.
